Ensberg Ends Game With 2-Run Homer
LOS ANGELES -- Junior third baseman Morgan Ensberg's 2-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth gave No. 3 USC an 8-7 come from behind victory over No. 19 Cal State Northridge Wednesday at Dedeaux Field. USC is now 13-3 while Northridge drops to 9-4-1.
With one out in the ninth, catcher Eric Munson singled to right field to set the stage for Ensberg's home run. It was the first home run of the year for Ensberg, who hit a 3-2 pitch from senior righthander Jason Cole (2-2) over the left field fence to give the Trojans the victory and their only lead in the game.
Junior righthander Mike Weibling pitched 1.1 innings in relief, retiring all four batters he faced to pick up the win (2-0).
USC, which got 15 hits, was led offensively by senior designated hitter Brian Ponchak, who was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. First baseman Greg Walbridge was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and extended his hitting streak to 8 games.
Senior Jose Miranda was the most productive Matador, going 2-for-4 with a home run (8) and 3 RBIs. Brian Wagner also homered for Northridge, a solo shot in the eighth to break a 6-6 tie and give the Matadors a 7-6 lead.
