    Long Beach State Upsets USC

    LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Izzy Gonzalez and Casey Martin drove in a combined five runs and Long Beach State scored six runs in the game's first two innings, as the 49ers (2-4) upset USC 7-3 at Blair Field before 1,448.

    Third baseman Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's to lead a 49er offensive which produced 12 hits off the Trojan pitching staff.

    Long Beach State battered USC starter Scott Henderson (1-1), producing six earned runs on eight hits in two innings of work. On the other hand, 49er starter Denny Gilich, Jr. (1-1) earned the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing one run on eight hits.

    Offensively for the Men of Troy, catcher Eric Munson was 2-for-5 with a run batted in. Centerfielder Robb Gorr and third baseman Morgan Ensberg each recorded two hits for the Trojans.

    USC (7-2) next faces UC Santa Barbara Tues., Feb. 11 at Dedeaux Field at 5 p.m.
