The SCORE Initiative, which has our world-class athletes Serving Community through Outreach, Recreation, and Education, provides the cornerstone for USC Athletics' Community Outreach program. Each of our 21 teams pairs up with a local elementary or middle school to deliver a four-part educational message. The "Four Quarters" of SCORE include Physical Health, Academic Integrity, Team Building, and Community Responsibility. As an introductory event, team members will arrive at their partner school for a half-day of programming with a group of 30 to 60 kids. This day includes hands-on activities in each of our educational categories and one-on-one interaction to develop our athletes as mentors. After this initial connection, the team will make monthly contact with their SCORE buddies, doing anything from attending a P.E. class to sending a video from practice. As a final celebration, the SCORE kids will be invited on campus to watch their mentors play a home match. This initiative develops a personal relationship between local schools and the USC Athletic Department, while fostering healthy habits, academic balance, and Trojan loyalty in students and athletes alike.
