The women's basketball team started its season off right yesterday evening with members of the extended Trojan Family filling the Galen Center. The Women of Troy and new head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke did not disappoint, showcasing their promising line-up with a win over the San Diego State Aztecs.

After school programs from USC's Family of Schools were invited to attend the earlier-than-usual home opener. Over 2,000 tickets were given out to local kids and their families.

The local neighbors embraced their team as they danced, sang, and cheered in celebration of every point scored. Trojan Family pride was evident as the youthful fans chanted "Let's go Trojans!" without any prompting and began a crowd wave.

The day served as a perfect introduction for USC's new kid-friendly mascot costumes, Tommy and Traveler. "This is my best day this week!" exclaimed one delighted attendee after receiving a larger-than-life high five from Tommy. The mascot handed out boxes of pizza courtesy of the USC Athletics Marketing Department and children flocked to him, requesting photos.

Lucky fans from each attending school participated in halftime games on the court. Peers cheered on their classmates as they competed in an intense game of musical chairs to win the grand prize.

Hosting groups from over 15 area schools, including Norwood Elementary, John Mack Elementary, and Lou Dantzler Elementary, the Women of Troy were encouraged by the support and hope to see some familiar faces at future games.
