De Grasse & Brown Advance To 100m Semis At 2015 IAAF World Championships|

BEIJING, CHINA – USC rising senior Andre De Grasse and 2014 graduate Aaron Brown advanced to the men’s 100m semifinals, while 2015 graduate Conor McCullough placed 13th in the men’s hammer throw during the first day of action at the 2015 IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Beijing, China today (Aug. 22).
De Grasse took second in the fifth heat with a time of 9.99 (+0.3) to automatically advance to tomorrow’s semifinals tied for the seventh-fastest time. Brown took second in the sixth heat with a time of 10.03 (+2.1w) to advance to the semifinals tied for the 10th fastest qualifying time. In tomorrow’s semifinal heat, the 2015 NCAA 100m champion De Grasse will square off with reigning World and Olympic Champion Usain Bolt and NCAA runner-up and the second-fastest qualifier Trayvon Bromell. Brown’s semifinal heat also features the fastest qualifier Justin Gatlin of the U.S. De Grasse and Brown are running representing their native Canada.
2015 senior Conor McCullough missed advancing to the men’s hammer throw finals by one spot. McCullough had a best throw of 243-4 (74.31mn) which was good for eighth in Group B and 13th overall. McCullough had the fartest throw by a U.S. athlete in the competition.
