Four USC athletes combined to win five medals at the Under-23 North American, Central American Caribbean Championships (NACAC) at the Miramar Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Fla from July 9-11.

First Cooper Thompson represented USA in the men's javelin and took home a silver medal with a throw of 228-1 (69.52m). The winner was Juan Mendez of Mexico who threw the javelin 229-5. Thompson had a monster throw of 253-3 (77.19m) earlier this year to place second at the Pac-10 Championships and claim the second-farthest throw in USC history.

Joey Hughes, also representing USA, placed second in the men's 400m dash with a time of 45.79 to win silver. Tavaris Tate, also of the U.S. won with a time of 45.36. Hughes won his semifinals heat with a time of 45.93 which was the fastest qualifying time. Hughes (44.4 split) then teammed up with Tate to lead USC to gold in the 4x400m relay race with a time of 2:58.83, more than four seconds faster that the Bahamas team which placed second. Hughes placed third in the 400m dash at the NCAA Championships this season and had a PR of 45.15 in the event during the semifinals of the NCAA Championships.

Reggie Wyatt earned the U.S. a bronze in the men's 400m intermediate hurdles with a time of 50.15. He won his semifinals heat with a time of 50.18. Wyatt posted the eighth-fastest 400m IH time in USC history earlier this year with a time of 49.46.

 

 

Trey Henderson represented Canada in the men's hammer throw and won bronze with a best mark of 217-5 (66.28m). Henderson ranks seventh all-time at USC in the hammer with a best throw of 221-10 (67.63m).
