Boyd Takes 8th In Triple Jump At USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships|

Allita Boyd placed eighth in the women's triple jump, Reggie Wyatt advanced to the semifinals in the men's 400m IH at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Ia. today (June 20). The bad news for USC was that Bryshon Nellum, who injured his leg in practice before traveling to Iowa, could not advance out of today's 400m preliminary round.
Boyd, who also took eighth at the 2013 NCAA Track & Field Championships, had a PR of 43-10.75 (13.38m) in her first jump and that stood up for eighth place. Her next best jump in the competition was for 42-8.25. Boyd's jump of 43-10.75 moved her from fourth to third place on USC's all-time list in the triple jump.
Wyatt automatically advanced to tomorrow's semifinals by taking second in his 400m IH heat with the eighth-fastest qualifier on the day of 50.98. Wyatt won the 2013 NCAA 400m IH title with a time of 48.58.
Nellum, who had stepped off the USC track at practice and tweaked his right leg, tried to give it a go today but placed sixth in his heat and 29th overall in the men's 400m race with a time of 47.81. Nellum also was a 2013 NCAA champion in the 400m with a time of 44.73.
Former Trojans competing included Duane Solomon in the 800m and he advanced to the men's 800m semifinals with the day's top qualifying time of 1:46.39. Joey Hughes was fourth in his heat and 12th overall in the 400m to advance to the semifinals, as did Josh Mance who was second overall with a time of 45.55. Also, Ahmad Rashad placed 24th in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.68 into a -3.5 wind and did not advance.
