USC CREDIT UNION MEN'S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
In the second round against San Diego State, Wang claimed the match-clinching point for the Trojans with his 6-3, 6-2 win over Thorsten Bertsch to send USC to the Round of 16. Wang now has the longest winning streak on the team with 16 consecutive victories. USC will next travel to Waco, Texas to face No. 10 Duke on May 14.
Also nominated for men's student-athlete of the week honors: Mitch Hart (baseball).
USC CREDIT UNION WOMEN'S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
On day two of events, Iuel had a career-best on the long jump with a wind-aided distance of 19-2.00/5.84m (+4.0w), which earned her fourth in the competition. In the 800m race, the sophomore defeated the field by more then 3.5 seconds with a PR-time of 2:10.28. Iuel's 800m time was the fastest 800m by a Trojan woman since Christine Cortez had a time of 2:10.01 in 2011. Overall, Iuel earned 5610 points to place third in the heptathlon and move into fourth on USC's all-time list.
The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Alec Koondel. Student assistant voters include Rachel Dobrin, Robby Kolanz, Dru Chavez, Colette Garcia, Andrew McKagan, Tera Novy, Max Schwartz and intern Katie Ryan.
