    Ellis Named To Mid-Season Bowerman Award Watch List

    USC junior Kendall Ellis was one of 10 athletes named to the mid-season watch list for the women’s Bowerman Award given out annually to the top NCAA track and field athlete of the year, it was announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today (April 19).

    Ellis (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) won the 400-meter dash at the Battle on the Bayou on April 8 with a meet-record time of 50.98. Her time is the collegiate leader and moved her from sixth to second on USC’s all-time list in the event. She also ran a 200m time of 22.79 at the Trojan Invitational on March 17 which ranks 10th in the country and sixth on USC’s all-time list. Ellis anchored USC’s 4x400m relay team which set a school record with a time of 2:26.27 at the Texas Relays on April 1.

    At the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships, Ellis broke her USC indoor 400m record with a time of 51.07 to take second, just .007 seconds behind the winner. She also anchored USC’s collegiate record-setting 4x400m relay which clocked 3:27.03 to capture the title. At the 2017 MPSF Championships, she won the 200m with a meet and track-record time of 23.09. She had an indoor best of 22.97 which ranks third on USC’s all-time list.
