Williams Finishes Day 1 Of Decathlon In 8th At California Invitational|

AZUSA, CALIF. - USC senior Jemal Williams stands in eighth place after day one of the decathlon at the California Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif. today (April 15). Williams has scored 3,414 points after five events in the "Section B" of the decathlon.
Williams began his day by taking eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.56 (-0.5) to earn 740 points. Next, he had a long jump best of 20-1.75/6.14m (+1.1) to finish 14th in the event and earn 617 points.
The third event was the shot put and Williams had a best mark of 40-00.75 (12.21m) to finish fifth and earn 619 points. For Williams, it was his best shot put mark since setting his PR of 41-6.40 at the 2013 Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships.
Williams then tied for sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-00.50 (1.84m) to earn 661 more points. He ended his day by placing fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 50.82. Williams earned 777 points in that event to finish with his first-day total of 3,414 points.
The decathlon will conclude tomorrow with Williams competing in the 110m HH, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500m race. Williams set a decathlon best of 7,034 in placing sixth at the 2014 Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships. Williams scored 3,539 points on the first day of that competition, one point off his first-day PR.
