    Jesse Williams Wins NCAA Indoor High Jump Crown

    USC junior Jesse Williams soared 7-5 to win the high jump title at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships at Fayetteville, Ark.

    He becomes the first Trojan to ever win the NCAA indoor high jump crown. His mark ranks as second best in school history, behind Dawid Jaworski's 7-5 3/4 leap set in 2003.

    Williams gave USC a clean sweep at the NCAA Indoor meet, as both Trojan entrants in the 2005 competition won a title. On Friday (March 11), junior Virginia Powell won the 60-meter hurdles.

    Williams finished ahead of second place finisher Dusty Jonas of Nebraska, who jumped 7-3 3/4. His championship gives USC 131 NCAA indoor and outdoor individual track and field titles by its men and women.

    Williams is a 2-time All-American at USC. He was seventh at the 2004 NCAA indoor competition and was the runnerup at the Pac-10 outdoor meet. He also was the runnerup at the NCAA indoor meet in 2003 while competing for North Carolina State, then placed seventh at the NCAA outdoor meet that spring for the Wolfpack.
