Jessica Davis was named the MPSF Female Athlete of the Meet and Director of USC Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert the Women's Coach of the Year by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation today (March 5).

Davis was a two-time winner at the MPSF Championships held in Seattle, Washington on Feb. 28-March 1. First she won the women's 200m race with a time of 23.51 on Feb. 28, then came back to take the 60m dash title on March 1 with a time of 7.34. Davis set a 60m PR in the preliminary round on Feb. 28 with a time of 7.31 which qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships next week.

The Trojans' first-year leader Smith Gilbert guided the Trojans to an MPSF Indoor Championship in their first-year of participation in the meet. The Trojans accumulated 106 points over the two-day championship, 25 ahead of their closest competitor. USC won five of the eight events they competed in at Seattle, and took both first and second in three. There was Davis' double win, along with Lauren Blackburn being victorious in the 60-meter hurdles (12th-ranked, career-best, 8:19), Akawkaw Ndipagbor winning the 400-meter (13th-ranked, school indoor record, and career-best, 52:63) and Oluwakemi Olonade taking the triple jump (career-best, 41'-2.50"). Smith Gilbert was a six-time Conference USA Coach of the Year at the University of Central Florida before taking over the USC program this past summer.
