    USC Gets Final Tune-up At Occidental Invite

    Thea Weiss moved into sixth place on USC's all-time women's pole vault list to highlight the Trojan's efforts at the Occidental Invitational on May 4.

    Weiss had a clearance of 12-4.50 (3.77m) to finish fifth in the competition and establish a new personal best. That height also moved the junior from seventh to sixth on the Trojans' all-time list, dropping teammate Ariel Hayward to seventh. The freshman Hayward tied for ninth with a best jump of 11-10.50 (3.62m) and freshman Felicia Horvath tied for seventh at the same height due to misses.

    In the women's hammer throw competition, redshirt junior Lauren Chambers placed fourth with a mark of 195-4 (59.54m). Sophomore Alexandra Collatz had a PR of 179-3 (54.65) to take fifth and redshirt senior Ashley Pyka placed seventh with a throw of 170-2 (51.88m).

    Other Trojan females competing were junior Loudia Laarman in the 100m dash (7th, 11.81), redshirt sophomore Charity Bruce in the 100m (18th, 12.35), junior Jackie Dion in the 800m (26th, 2:23.37) and redshirt senior Kathryn Karkut in the 400m IH (17th, 66.66).

    For the USC men's team, freshman Kyle Iverson was 40th in the 800m race with a time of 1:57.43. Sophomore Steven Cherry competed in the pole valut, but no heighted.
