Track And Field Tunes Up For UCLA Dual Meet|
April 26, 2004
Los Angeles -
The USC men's and women's track and field teams competed at the UC San Diego Invitational and the Cal State LA Classic this past Saturday, meets that were highlighted by several personal bests.
Senior sprinter Miya Edmonson raced to a PR 23.52 in the 200m, a time that is 10th on the all-time USC list. Junior Alexis Weatherspoon also chipped in a PR in the 200m with a time of 23.90. Both Edmonson's and Weatherspoon's marks are NCAA Regional qualifiers.
Performances in the throws included a PR 60-11 1/2 for sophomore Noah Bryant in the shot put. That is an NCAA Regional qualifier, just outside the USC top 10 chart and nearly a two-foot improvement upon his previous best. Redshirt freshman William Denbo PRed for the second-straight outing, as he threw 60-7 3/4 in the shot, also an NCAA Regional qualifier.
On the women's side, freshman Katie Hutchinson landed in sixth on the all-time USC discus chart with a PR and NCAA Regional qualifying 163-8, while freshman Julia Rozenfeld set a USC freshman record with a mark of 197-6 in the hammer (good for fifth on the all-time Women of Troy list).
Both Trojan squads are next in action at the UCLA dual meet on Saturday (May 1) at Drake Stadium in Westwood on the UCLA campus. Events begin at 11:30 a.m.
