Trojans Open Up Busy Weekend With Strong Showing At CSULA|

James Leckie won the men's 1500m race and Tamara Baumann in the hammer throw, Dalilah Muhammad in the 100m HH and Anniya Louis in the 800m took second place as the USC track and field team began this weekend's action by competing at the CSULA Twilight Meet in Los Angeles today (April 19). The Trojans will be in action at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Friday and Saturday and compete at the Beach Invitational on Saturday at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif.
The day started with the redshirt senior Baumann placing second in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 177-3 (54.02m). Right behind her in third was redshirt junior Ashley Pyka with a throw of 174-4 (53.14m) and freshman Alexandra Collatz in fourth with a mark of 167-1 (50.95m). Redshirt junior Farren Benjamin placed 16th with a throw of 138-2 (42.12m). In the men's hammer throw, redshirt junior Eric Stein placed sixth with a throw of 165-10 (50.54m) and redshirt sophomore Beau Falgout was 12th with a throw of 145-2 (44.27m).
Leckie, a senior, won the men's 1500m race with a PR of 3:59.44, while redshirt junior Greg Woodburn finished 15th with a PR of 4:15.54. Freshman decathlete Jemal Williams had a time of 4:35.82 in the 1500m, 15.87 in the 110m HH and a mark of 107-2 in the discus and 108-7 in the javelin throw.
The senior co-captain Muhammad took second in the women's 100m HH with a time of 13.55 and the senior Louis took second in the women's 800m race with a season-best time of 2:14.42. Sophomore Jackie Dion placed 21st in the 800m run with a time of 2:29.20.
Other Trojan women competing were redshirt freshman Charity Bruce in the 100m (15th, 12.29), freshman Malea Malik in the 400m (20th, 61.81), freshman Tessa Granowski in the 400m (22nd, 62.91), junior Alexis Brown in the 400m (26th, 64.75), junior Caroline Lutzky in the 400m (31st, season-best 67.13), junior Jennifer Jones in the long jump (T-7th, 18-1) and freshman Kiana Henry in the long jump (T-20th, 16-7).
USC men also competing were freshman Bryan Mercado in the 100m (23rd, 11.12) and 200m (14th, 22.40), junior Joseph Laetsch in the 400m (11th, with a PR of 49.58), junior Aaron Adkins in the 800m (17th, 1:57.54), junior Ryan Thomas in the 800m (26th, 2:00.05), redshirt junior Tim Kessler in the 800m (29th, 2:02.44), junior Crispin Collins in the 800m (33rd, 2:12.78), redshirt junior Tony Martinez in the 800m (37th, 2:18.09) and 3000m SC (4th, with a PR of 9:58.45), sophomore Greg Starkey in the 400m IH (6th, 56.72), freshman Sam Barkley in the 400m IH (10th, 59.52), junior Tyler Ruiz in the high jump (4th, 6-7.50), sophomore Doug Bogie in the high jump (T-10th, 6-1.50), sophomore Kevin Schwindt in the pole vault (T-6th, season-best 14-3.25), freshman Steven Cherry in the pole vault (T-10th, 13-9.75) and redshirt sophomore David Selma in the long jump (5th, season-best 22-7.25).
