April 5, 2014
A small group of Trojans competed this weekend at the Cal-Nevada Championships in San Diego, Calif. and just like the larger group competing at the Florida Relays stacked up personal bests on the final day (April 5), led by Jenna Tong's win in the 3000m steeplechase.
The Trojan sophomore Tong continues to improve virtually every time she runs the 3000m steeplechase, winning today with a PR of 10:42.91. Her time moved her from fourth to third on USC's all-time list in the event. Also improving just as fast as Tong and setting a PR was junior Kira Soderstrom who placed fourth with a time of 10:57.13. That time also moved her from 10th to fifth on USC's all-time steeplechase list.
Sophomore Natasha Strickland, who set an 800m PR yesterday of 2:14.06, placed sixth in finals today with a time of 2:16.06.
USC also had three females competing in the 1500m race and sophomore Katerina Berdousi placed sixth with a season-best time of 4:40.82, senior Lindsay Enright placed 14th with a PR of 4:44.56 and redshirt freshman Lauren Grego finished 21st with a season-best time of 4:54.12.
Junior Myles Andrews advanced to the 800m finals today, by placing second in the preliminary rounds yesterday with a time of 1:52.46. He bettered that time today with a season best of 1:51.75 to take third in the finals.
Andrews also ran in the men's 1500m race and finished sixth with a time of 3:58.91. Freshman Josh Galen also competed in the 1500m race and had a season-best time of 4:11.72 to finish 31st.
