Lopes Wins The Heptathlon At Jim Klein Combined Events|

Lyndsey Lopes won the heptathlon with a personal best of 5,368 points at the Jim Klein Combined Events hosted by Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. today (March 24). Lopes moved from 10th to eighth on USC’s all-time heptathlon list. USC also had nine distance runners compete in invitational races at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. today.
• On the final day of the competition of the Jim Klein Combined Events, Lopes won the long jump with a PR of 19-0.00/5.79m (+0.4) to earn 879 points, took third in the javelin throw with a mark of 117-5 (35.77m) for 586 points and took second in the 800m with a time of 2:25.40, good for 752 points. Lopes won the heptathlon with a PR of 5,368 points, with next closest finisher 529 points behind.
• In the women’s Invitational 1500m race, Lorea Ibarzabal won her heat and was 18th overall with a season-best time of 4:36.44, Vivian Grimes was 22nd with a time of 4:37.94, Chloe Berry was 25th with a PR of 4:38.94, Mikaela Smith was 30th with a PR of 4:43.20, Amber Gore was 43rd with a time of 4:48.88, Madison Ricks was 44th with a time of 4:50.58 and Lauren Maurer was 46th with a season-best time of 4:52.40.
Tomorrow USC will have many athletes in action at the Aztec Invitational beginning at 8 a.m. with the men’s hammer throw invite.
