    USC Posts Solid Results At The Ben Brown Invitational

    Senior Kira Soderstrom continued her strong early season running, posting PRs today in the 800m and 1500m races at the Ben Brown Invitational.

    Reika Kijima won the women's 800m race and three Trojans posted the top collegiate finishes in events during the final day of the Ben Brown Invitational being hosted by Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif. today (March 14).

    USC's women dominated the 800m race with the junior Kijima winning with a slight PR of 2:12.47, followed closely by senior Erica Capellino in second with a time of 2:12.83, just .25 seconds off her PR. Setting a PR by more than four seconds and placing fifth in the event was senior Kira Soderstrom with a time of 2:15.43. The other Trojans in the women's 800m race were junior Katerina Berdousi (9th, 2:18.30), freshman Madison Ricks (10th, 2:18.32), junior Natasha Strickland (11th, 2:19.79), sophomore Cameron Pettigrew (12th 2:19.92), junior Jenna Tong (13th, 2:21.02), freshman Emma Kao (17th, 2:25.65) and freshman Amber Bragdon (18th, 2:27.55). Kijima, Kao and Soderstrom all won their heats.

    In the men's 800m race, freshman David Manahan took 11th with a time of 1:55.68, followed by redshirt junior Bryan Jordan (16th, 1:56.98), sophomore Clayton Rule (25th, 2:02.00) and junior William Robinson (27th, 2:06.66). Freshman Jordon Wallin was one of two runners not to finish the second section of the 800m race.

    Senior Myles Andrews had a personal best by more than 4.5 seconds and placed third in the men's 1500m race with a time of 3:52.54. His time was the best among the college runners. Also competing in the men's 1500m race were Jordan (11th, 4:01.59), Manahan (15th, 4:07.61), freshman Gabriel Morin (20th, 4:09.68), Rule (21st, 4:09.96) and Robinson (30th, 4:30.82).

    In the women's 1500m race, USC had five of the top 10 finishers with Capellino placing second with a time of 4:35.74. Right behind her in third place was Soderstrom with another PR in the event of almost three seconds, finishing with a time of 4:36.61. Also competing in the women's 1500m race was Berdousi (5th, 4:41.75), Tong (9th, 4:48.42), Kijima (10th, 4:50.71), Bragdon (17th, 4:56.95) and Strickland (22nd, 5:09.08).

    Freshman Madisen Richards ran in the women's 100m dash and placed sixth with a time of 12:08 (+2.8w). She came back to run 25.60 (+0.9) in the women's 200m race to take 11th.

    Freshman Dominic Smallwood placed second in the men's long jump with the top mark by a college athlete of 23-3.50/7.10m (+0.4). Redshirt junior Jovonte Slater placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21-9.50/6.64m (-0.4) and senior Jabre Millon placed ninth with a jump of 20-10.00/6.35m (-1.7). Smallwood came back to take third in the men's triple jump with a leap of 46-10.50/14.27m (+0.0) and Millon placed 11th with a jump of 44-2.00/13.46m (+0.0).

    Senior Jemal Williams had a PR of 14.95 (+1.1) to place second in the men's 110m HH, first among the college runners in the event. The Trojan decathlete also competed in the discus throw and placed 10th with a mark of 121-5 (37.00m)

    Redshirt junior Malia Cravens got the day started by tying for fourth in the women's high jump with a season-best clearance of 5-5.00 (1.65m), which is just off her PR of 5-5.25. Cravens tied with Santana Alford of APU for the top height cleared by an official college athlete at the meet.

    Junior Felicia Horvath also took fourth in the women's pole vault with a clearance at 11-7.75 (3.55m). Sophomore Mikey Rozvar placed seventh in the men's pole vault with a season-best clearance of 14-7.25 (4.45m).

    The Trojans also competed in the 4x400m races with the men's team of Andrews, freshman Robert Ford, Manahan and Wallin placed fourth with a time of 3:22.43, while the women's team of Capellino, Kao, Kijima and Strickland placed fifth with a time of 4:02.27.
