USC Has A Strong First Day At The Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational|

Senior Viktor Fajoyomi has the lead in the men's heptathlon, sophomore Alexis Faulknor posted the top female long jump by a college athlete and junior Akawkaw Ndipagbor had the top college time in the women's 400m race during action in the first day at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. today (Feb. 7). In addition, USC qualified a total of eight athletes for tomorrow's 60m hurdles and 60m dash finals.
Fajoyomi finished the first day with 3,140 points in the men's heptathlon, 290 points ahead of the second place athlete, Parker Shearer of Auburn. First he placed eighth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.35 to earn 762 points. He then won the long jump with a leap of 23-7.50 (7.20m) to earn 862 points. The shot put was next and he earned 629 points and placed fifth with a throw of 40-7.00 (12.37m). He ended the day in style by winning the high jump with a clearance of 6-10.25 (2.09m) to earn 887 points. Tomorrow he will compete in the 60m HH, the pole vault and the 1000m race.
Faulknor posted an indoor PR of 20-0.50 (6.11m) in the women's long jump, the top leap by a college athlete today. Mara Griva competed unattached and won the event with a leap of 20-5.25.
Ndipagbor had the top collegiate 400m time today of 53.58. The only runner to beat her was Trojan volunteer coach and Olympian Dee Dee Trotter with a time of 52.57. Junior Vanessa Jones has the third-fastest time tonight of 54.53, while senior Ashley Liverpool, in her first race of the season, placed eighth with a time of 55.48 and sophomore Jaide Stepter placed 21st with a time of 57.35. Freshman Alex Rohani ran in the men's 400m race, and in his first college race, placed 18th with a time of 49.11.
In the 60m hurldes, senior Aleec Harris won his heat and had the third-fastest qualifier among the men with a time of 7.74 which tied his PR. Senior Lauren Blackburn won her women's 60m HH heat with a PR of 8.32 which was the second-fastest qualifier. Junior Melia Cox also posted a PR with a time of 8.51, the fifth best time among the qualifiers for tomorrow's final.
Junior BeeJay Lee had a time of 6.71 in the men's 60m dash to tie for third in the preliminary round with Andre De Grasse of Coffeyville CC, a member of USC's 2014 recruiting class. Senior Aaron Brown was distracted by a runner who flinched in his heat and placed 12th with a time of 6.83. Junior Davonte Stewart took 24th with a time of 7.04.
USC's women's team qualified four runners for tomorrow's 60m dash finals, led by senior Jessica Davis who won her heat and had the fastest qualifying time of 7.37. Redshirt sophomore Tynia Gaither also won her heat and had the second-fastest qualifying time of 7.40, sophomore Alexis Faulknor the sixth-fastest time of 7.46 and senior Loudia Laarman, who won her heat with the eighth-fastest qualifying time of 7.52. Senior Jenna Puterbaugh placed 12th with a time of 7.56.
