THIS YEAR: Grad student Ariel Wright transfered to USC from Brown and will have this one season to compete in track and field. She is expected to be one of the Trojans' top distance runners this season.
COLLEGE: Wright attended Brown University in Providence, R.I. She posted a best 5000m time of 16.22.18 last season. Just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 5000m race as she placed 14th with a time of 16:34.18 at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds in Greensboro, N.C. Won the 5000m race with a time of 16:37.22 at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, becoming the first Brown female to win the event since 1984. Wright also finished fourth in the 3000m run with a time of 9:54.84. She earned first-team All-Ivy League honors and received USTFCCCA Women's Track & Field All-Academic Honors. She also received All-Region cross country honors in 2006 and 2007.
HIGH SCHOOL: Wright is a 2006 graduate of Bishop O'Dowd High in Oakland, Calif. She was the California state champion in cross country her junior season and North-Coast Champion her junior and senior years. Placed fifth in the state in the 1600m race as a junior and sixth in the state in the 3200m race as a senior.
PERSONAL: Ariel was born on November 21, 1988 in Oakland, Calif...She earned her degree from Brown in Biomedical Engineering and is in graduate Engineering program at USC....She likes listening to music, doing yoga and meditation in her spare time...Would like someday to find the cure for cancer.
