THIS YEAR: Senior Allen Simms should challenge for both the indoor and outdoor NCAA triple jump titles in 2005.
2004: Simms won the 2004 Pac-10 triple jump title and both the long and triple jump crowns at the NCAA West Regionals ... Jumped season bests of 54-10 3/4 in the triple and 25-5 1/4 in the long jump to win both events at the UCLA dual meet ... He scratched from the triple jump at the NCAA Championships due to injury.
2003: Simms had one of the finest seasons for a jumper in Trojan history as a sophomore after transferring from George Mason University ... Set the USC and Pac-10 record when he jumped 56-7 1/2 to win the 2003 NCAA Indoor title ... He was the first Trojan to win the triple jump title indoors ... Went on to place third in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor meet with a mark of 55-5 1/2 as USC went 1-3 in the event ... Also placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 25-2 3/4 ... Was the first long jump All-American at Troy since Ed Tave in 1984 and the first Trojan since Luther Hayes in 1961 to score in both the long and triple jump at the same NCAA meet ... Scored a total of 18 points for the Trojans at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships ... Is a six-time All-American ... Set the USC outdoor triple jump mark with a winning leap of 56-4 at the dual meet, also a Loker Stadium/Cromwell Field record ... Finished second at the Pac-10s in both the triple jump and long jump and won the triple and was second in the long jump at the NCAA West Regionals ... He jumped 26-3 3/4 at the Trojan Invitational, a mark that is fourth on the all-time USC long jump chart ... GEORGE MASON: As a 2001 freshman, Simms was fourth in the triple jump and 15th in the long jump at the NCAA Outdoors and fourth in the triple at the NCAA Indoor Championships ... He was the Colonial Athletic Association's MVP ... He had PRs of 26-3 in the long jump and 55-1 in the triple jump.
HIGH SCHOOL: Simms attended Eleanor Roosevelt High in Greenbelt, Md., where he was considered one of the top prep jumpers in the nation in 2000 by Track and Field News ... He had bests of 24-9 in the long jump and 52-10 in the triple jump ... Was a member of the U.S. Junior team that went to the 2001 Pan Am Games ... He was the first male ever to sweep the long and triple jumps at the U.S. Junior Championshps.
