THIS YEAR: Returned after redshirting in 2007 and showed great signs for the future. Teams with Brandon Estrada to give USC two 17-foot vaulters.

2008: Set a new PR with a pole vault of 17-2 3/4 (5.25m) at the Trojan Invitational on March 22. Finished tied for seventh at the Pac-10 Championships with a clearance of 16-7 3/4...it was tied for the fourth-best height, but he fell to seventh on misses. Tied for ninth at the West Regional in the pole vault with a jump of 16-7 1/4.

2007: Redshirted with an ankle injury.

2006: Scott led all USC pole vaulters as a freshman with a clearance of 17-1 (5.21m) to win the pole vault competion at the Trojan Invitational on March 25...Tied for 15th at the Pac-10 Championships with a pole vault of 4.90m...Qualified for the NCAA West Championships, but no heighted.

HIGH SCHOOL: Scott prepped at El Camino (Calif.) High and had a best 16-8 in the pole vault...Did not compete in the high school postseason due to multiple ligament tears in his knee...He was the No. 1 high school pole vaulter his senior year and was leading the nation at the time of his injury.

PERSONAL: Derek was born on June 25, 1987 in Oceanside, Calif....His hobbies include skydiving, skateboard...and not getting injured...Lists his favorite musical group as Steel Pulse...He is an Entrepreneurial Studies major at USC.
