    Trojans open season this weekend at the Rossi Relays

    THIS SEASON: Senior Tyler Ruiz will compete for USC in the high jump, triple jump and long jump once again. He looks to break the 7-foot barrier this season in the high jump and challenge for a spot in USC's all-time top 10 in the event.

    2012: High jumped 6-7.50 to finish fourth at the BYU Tri-Meet on April 7. Set a PR in the triple jump of 47-2.50 (14.39m) in placing fourth at the Dual Meet on April 29. He was also an inch and a half short of his PR in the long jump with a season-best of 23-1.25 (7.04m) to place fifth at the Dual Meet. Had a season-best clearance of 6-9.0 (2.06m) to tie for 14th in the HJ at the Pac-12 Championships in Eugene, Ore. Also finished tied for 17th in the long jump and 18th in the triple jump.

    2011: Competed at the Pac-10 Championships in the high jump and long jump. Placed 18th in the high jump with a clearance of 6-7 (2.01m) and finished 13th in the long jump with PR of 23-2.75 (7.08m). At the NCAA Preliminary Rounds in Eugene, Ore. tied for 25th in the high jump with a clearance of 6-7 (2.01m). Set a PR of 6-11.75 (2.13m) in winning the high jump at the Tiny Lister Classic on April 23. Took second in the high jump at the CS Los Angeles Twilight Open on April 14 with a clearance of 6-8 (2.03m). Placed second in the high jump at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet going clean through 6-11.00 (2.11m), before missing three times at 7-0.25 (2.14m).

    2010: Competed in the long jump and high jump as a freshman. He had a season-best high jump of 6-8.75 (2.05m) to place third at the Northridge Relays on March 13. His best long jump was 22-3.0 (6.78m) at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 6. Jumped 21-11.50 at the Dual Meet on May 1 to place sixth in the long jump...also took fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-6.75.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Sherman Oaks Notre Dame where he competed in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Placed second in the high jump (6-5) and third in the triple jump (45-10.75w) at the CIF Southern Section Division III Finals. Had a best high jump of 6-9.25, top long jump of 22-10 and best triple jump of 46-10.

    PERSONAL: Tyler was born on July 3, 1991 in Hollywood, Calif....His parents are Edwin and Joy and he has two siblings, Justin and Jasmine...His mother also attended USC...He likes to play the piano and guitar in his spare time as well as go snowboarding...Would like to travel to Brazil...Says world champion high jumper and fellow Trojan Jesse Williams is his sports hero...Is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity...Named to the 2011 and 2012 Pac-12 All-Academic teams...Tyler is a Business major at USC and would like to enter the finance industry after graduating.
