    THIS YEAR: Redshirt junior All-American Nick Ponzio begins his third season throwing the shot put for the USC track and field team. He transferred to USC with four seasons of eligibility after one year of school at Florida.

    2016: Competed in the shot put and discus throw during the season. Had a shot put best of 63-8.75 (19.42m) to place sixth at the Triton Invitational. Took third at the Dual Meet with a mark of 63-3.50 and fourth at the Pac-12 Championships with a shot put of 62-3.00. Placed 12th at the NCAA Championships in the shot put with a best mark of 61-8.25. Had a season-best discus throw of 179-5 (54.69m) to win at the California Collegiate...also won the shot put there with a mark of 62-8.75.

    2015: Ponzio made great strides throughout the season, culminating with him earning All-America honors in the shot put, the first Trojan freshman to ever earn those honors. He placed eighth at the NCAA Championships with a PR of 64-1 (19.53m)…that mark moved Ponzio into sixth place on USC’s all-time shot put list. He broke Dallas Long’s school freshman record of 63-7 set in 1959 with a mark of 63-8.75 (19.42m) at the NCAA West Regionals where he finished fifth. He placed third at the Pac-12 Championships with a throw of 63-1.25 (19.23m) and third at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet with a mark of 63-2.75 (19.27m). He also competed in the discus throw four times, winning the USC-UCLA Dual Meet title with a PR of 185-3 (56.47m) and taking eighth at the Pac-12 Championships with a mark of 173-10 (52.99m).

    BEFORE USC: Attended the University of Florida during the 2013-14 school year, but did not compete in track and field.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Ponzio is a 2013 graduate of Great Oak High in Temecula. He was the 2013 California high school state champion in the shot put with a best mark of 66-2.50. He also placed fourth in the state meet in the discus throw with a mark of 184-6. He has a best shot put of 69-7.25 at the Murietta Mesa vs. Great Oak Meet on April 25, 2013 which was third all-time in the state of California and is the Southern Section record...that throw was also the top mark by a high schooler in 2013. Ponzio's PR in the discus is 187-8.50. He was named the 2013 Press-Enterprise Boys Track Athlete of the Year. He was a two-time high school All-American and was a 2013 Gatorade Athlete of the Year finalist. Ponzio also maintained a 4.0 GPA at Great Oak.

    PERSONAL: Nick was born on January 4, 1995 in San Diego, Calif...He is the son of Jeff and Jamie Ponzio and has two sisters, Amanda and Olivia...He is currently an Undeclared major at USC...His hobbies include lifting weights and eating...His favorite type of food is Italian...His goals after college are to compete professionally and become a strength and conditioning coach.
