THIS YEAR: Senior Adam Midles looks to have a great senior season and improve upon his seventh place standing on USC's all-time hammer list.
2006: Won the Claremont Classic hammer throw competition with a career-best of 219-2 (66.80m) on May 7...it also improved his seventh-place standing on USC's all-time hammer list...Came in second at the Pac-10 Championships in the hammer with a throw of 217-3 (66.21m)...Took third in the hammer at the NCAA West Regional with a throw of 214-7 (65.42m)...Earned All-American honors in the hammer with a seventh-place finish with a throw of 216-1 (65.87m)...Had a career-best javelin throw of 164-6 (50.15m) at the Long Beach Relays on March 4...His season best in the discus throw of 161-5 (49.19m) came at the UCLA-USC Dual Meet...Also placed second in the hammer at that meet with a throw of 210-9 (64.24m).
2005: Midles had a strong sophomore season for the Trojans, throwing the hammer a Trojan-best 216-0 on Feb. 26 at the Stanford Invitational...Won the Pac-10 hammer throw competition with a throw of 208-10, USC's eighth championship in the event in the last 13 years...He placed fifth at the NCAA West Region with a throw of 204-5 in the hammer...surprised at the NCAAs with a sixth-place finish.
2004: Midles redshirted in 2004, but threw over 220 feet as an unattached thrower. 2003: He had a fine debut as a true freshman for the Trojans...Came through big at the UCLA dual meet, winning with a throw of 201-7 to lead a Trojan sweep of the top two spots...Finished fourth at the Pac-10s in the hammer with a throw of 201-7...Took sixth at the NCAA West Regionals with a throw of 195-6...Threw 200-0 to place 14th at the NCAA Championships (he was the only true freshman competing)...Threw a then-PR 205-8 at the Sun Angel Invitational, a mark that put him 10th on the prestigious USC top 10 hammer chart...Also had a best of 168-11 in the discus.
HIGH SCHOOL: Midles had a distinguished career at Capital High in Olympia, Wash., where he was a two-time national hammer champion and two-time prep All-American...His best mark of 242-1 as a senior was the second-furthest throw ever using the 12-pound high school hammer...He also set the record for longest throw by a high school junior at 231-2... He threw the 16-pound college hammer a 201-9 which, incidentally, would have placed him in the top 10 all time at USC... Midles also threw the shot (57-11 3/4) and discus (191-3) and was a quarterback and linebacker in football for Capital ... He won the state 4A discus title as a sophomore.
PERSONAL: Adam was born on Sept. 24, 1983...He is an English major at USC.
