THIS YEAR: Senior Lionel Larry is one of the top 400m runners in the country and a force to be reckoned with as the anchor of USC's relay teams. He sets his sights this season on the NCAA 400m title and the top two spots on USC's all-time 400m list.
2007: Established a PR of 44.67 in a qualifier race at the USA T&F Championships held in Indianapolis, Ind. on June 22...that is the third-fastest 400m race in USC history...placed third in the finals with a time of 44.80. Ran for team USA at the World Championships in Osaka, Japan. Was named Pac-10 Male Track Athlete of the Year for his outstanding season. Was a three-time winner at the Pac-10 Championships in the 400m and as anchor on the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Won his second consecutive NCAA West Regional 400m title and also won as part of USC's 4x100m relay team. Placed second at the NCAA Championships by .02 seconds to Ricardo Chambers of Florida State.
2006: Finished competition in 2006 on a roll, setting new PRs in the 400m in almost every meet...Ran a season-best 45.38 at the NACAC Under 23 Championships in the DR in July...Prior to that, had run a 45.40 400m at the U.S. Track and Field Championships, but did not qualify for the finals...Placed sixth in the 400m at the NCAA Championships with a time of 45.53...Also ran the final leg for USC's 4x400m relay team which placed fourth, with a time of 3:03.08, the fifth-fastest time in school history...Won the 400m race at the NCAA West Regional with a time of 45.53...Clinched the Trojans' Pac-10 title by running the anchor leg for the 4x400m relay team and sprinting them to victory in a time of 3:05.74...Placed third in the Pac-10 400m with a time of 45.85...Ran the anchor leg in USC's winning 4x400m relay race at the UCLA-USC Dual Meet.
2005: Larry ran the best 400m time by a Trojan, posting a 45.78 mark on April 30 in the UCLA Dual Meet...Also was part of both of USC's top relay teams, as the 4x100m relay team ran 38.89 on April 17 at the Mt. Sac Relays, the third fasthest time in school history...He also was part of the 4x400m relay team that posted a season best of 3:05.31 on April 30 in the UCLA Dual Meet....a hamstring injury ended his season early...Led the U.S. 4x100m relay team to a gold medal at the Pan-American Junior Championships in August, running the first leg to give the U.S. a lead they would not relinquish.
HIGH SCHOOL: Larry prepped at Dominguez High in Compton, Calif., where he was a two-time Prep All-American...His honors included 2003 and 2004 All-American, 2003 All-USA Today (100m and 200m) and 2003 Long Beach Press Telegram Track and Field Athlete of the Year...He won the 2003 state 200m title...Best marks werre 10.31 in the 100m and 20.73 in the 200m, plus 47.28 in the 400m...His 200m time was fourth-best among incoming freshmen in 2005.
PERSONAL: Lionel was born on Sept. 14, 1986...He was the Dominguez class president as a freshman and was on the honor roll all four years in high school...He is a Social Sciences and History major at USC.
