THIS YEAR: Redshirt junior hurdler Katie Kirst was a pleasant surprise for the Trojans last season as she was one of the most improved athletes on the team. She continues to make steady progress and provides USC with depth in the hurdles events.
2007: Shaved nearly four seconds off her previous best time in the 400m IH during the course of the season. Placed sixth in the 400m IH at the Pac-10 Championships on May 13 with a PR of 1:00.16. Qualified for the West Regional in the 400m IH and was the top Trojan finisher with a time of 1:00.86, but did not advance to the finals. 2006: In her first season of hurdling for USC, Kirst ran a season-best 400m IH of 1:04.00 on May 13 at the Pac-10 Championships, but did not qualify for the finals.
HIGH SCHOOL: Kirst prepped at Valencia (Calif.) High.
PERSONAL: Katie was born on April 9, 1986 in Torrance, Calif...Her sister Kristi is on the UCLA track and field team and her grandfather is George Stanich who was John Wooden's first All-American at UCLA and a 1948 Olympic bronze medalist in the high jump...Katie is the only one in her family to attend USC...She is a Psychology major at USC.
