USC Record Holder--Triple Jump (55-8 1/2)

THIS YEAR: Senior All-American Julien Kapek is a world-class triple jumper who should challenge for the NCAA title in 2003.

2002: Kapek came to USC with great credentials--and he more than lived up to them ... He wasted no time in shattering Tom Cochee's triple jump school record set in 1975 when he went 55-2 3/4 in his debut at the Trojan Invitational ... He later extended that mark when he jumped a PR 55-8 1/2 at the Mt. Sac Relays ... Had a remarkable meet against UCLA, as he jumped 54-9 1/2 to win the triple jump and finished second in the long jump with a distance of 24-1 3/4 ... At the Pac-10s, he was fourth in the long jump with a PR 24-7 and first in the triple with a jump of 55-3 ... He then went on to take third at the NCAAs with a jump of 54-4 3/4 to become USC's 14th triple jump All-American and highest finisher since Tom Cochee in 1976.

BEFORE USC: Kapek was the two-time French under-23 triple jump champion.

PERSONAL: Julien was born on Dec. 1, 1979 in Clamart, France ... He is a pre-business major at USC.

CAREER BESTS: Triple Jump -- 55-8 1/2; Long Jump -- 24-7
