THIS SEASON: Sophomore Jemal Williams will use this season to continue to develop as a decathlete for USC. He joined USC mid-school year last season and worked hard to become a decathlete.
2012: After spending the fall semester at Santa Rosa JC, transferred to USC to compete as a decathlete. Placed 17th at the Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships with 6,188 points in Eugene, Ore. from May 5-6. He was the first Trojan male athlete to compete in the conference decathlon championship since the 2003 season. In just his first decathlon as a Trojan, Williams stepped up to register seven season-best efforts in the 10 events. The seven events he posted season-bests in at the conference meet were the discus throw (109-2, 33.27m), javelin (133-1), 1500m (4:28.68), 100m (11.80), long jump (20-2.50, 6.15m), shot put (35-6.50, 10.22m) and 400m (52.36). He also matched a season best in the pole vault (13-5.25, 4.10m). His season best in the high jump of 5-9.75 (1.77m) was set at the Tiny Lister Invitational on April 7, in the 200m was 24.27 set at the Trojan Invitational on March 24 and in the 110m HH was 15.58 set at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 29.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa, Calif. Placed sixth in the 110m HH with a time of 15.29 at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions
PERSONAL: Williams was born on April 11, 1993 in Santa Rosa, California. He is an International Relations major at USC and enjoys playing basketball and listening to music during his free time.
