Earns spot on Team USA at IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona
THIS SEASON: Senior Jemal Williams made tremendous strides again last season as a decathlete and is just outside of the Trojans' all-time top 10 list as he enters this season.
Williams culminated his strong season with a sixth-place finish in the decathlon at the Pac-12 Championships from May 10-11. His two-day total of 7,034 points was a PR by over 250 points and leaves him 72 points outside of USC's all-time top 10 in the decathlon. He had a very solid effort across the board with only one PR of 147-6 (44.95m) in the javelin. During the season, he also established PRs in the 100m (11.33), 400m (50.35), 110m HH (15.07), high jump (6-4.75), long jump (20-9.25/21-0.75w), pole vault (15-0.00) and the 400m IH (53.68). His 400m IH time was set at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on May 4 and earned him third place.
2013: Tied for seventh at the Trojan Invitational in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-5.25 (4.10m). At the same meet, took 13th place in the 110m HH with a time of 16.07. Placed 10th in the men's decathlon at the Pac-12 Multi-Event Championships on May 4 with a PR score of 6,646. Earned three PR's at this meet in the shot put, the high jump and the 400m dash, and also tied a previous PR in the 100m dash. Williams threw 41-6.50 (12.66m), cleared 6-2.00 (1.88m), and ran 51.08 and 11.72 respectively. Placed 15th at the Pac-12 Championships in the pole vault with a PR of 14-7.50 (4.46m).
2012: After spending the fall semester at Santa Rosa JC, transferred to USC to compete as a decathlete. Placed 17th at the Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships with 6,188 points in Eugene, Ore. from May 5-6. He was the first Trojan male athlete to compete in the conference decathlon championship since the 2003 season. In just his first decathlon as a Trojan, Williams stepped up to register seven season-best efforts in the 10 events. The seven events he posted season-bests in at the conference meet were the discus throw (109-2, 33.27m), javelin (133-1), 1500m (4:28.68), 100m (11.80), long jump (20-2.50, 6.15m), shot put (35-6.50, 10.22m) and 400m (52.36). He also matched a season best in the pole vault (13-5.25, 4.10m). His season best in the high jump of 5-9.75 (1.77m) was set at the Tiny Lister Invitational on April 7, in the 200m was 24.27 set at the Trojan Invitational on March 24 and in the 110m HH was 15.58 set at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 29.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa, Calif. Placed sixth in the 110m HH with a time of 15.29 at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions
