THIS YEAR: Redshirt freshman George Farmer will compete on the track and field team this spring, following his second season as a wide receiver on the USC football team. Was injured in the second game of the season and never got on track, but played in nine games and had one catch. As a freshman in 2011, Farmer appeared in four games, runing for 15 yards on 5 carries, catching four pages for 42 years and returning three kickoffs for 59 yards.
HIGH SCHOOL: Farmer is a 2011 graduate of Serra High in Gardena, Calif. He had high school bests of 10.40 in the 100m and 21.22 in the 200m. At the 2010 California state meet, he was second in the 100 meters (10.45) and seventh in the 200 (21.3). He won the 100 at the 2011 Arcadia Invitational and was the 2011 Del Rey League champ in the 100 and 200 before an ankle injury ended his season. He made the 2011 South Bay Daily Breeze All-South Bay team. He was the 2009-10 Cal-Hi Sports State Junior of the Year. In football, he was named a high school All-American by virtually every publication as a wide receiver and defensive back. He had 65 receptions for 1,514 yards (23.3 avg.) with 14 TDs, ran for 2 more TDs, had 5 TDs on kick/punt returns and intercepted 3 passes in 2010. Serra went 14-1 in 2010, won the CIF Western Division title and played in the California state Division II championship game. Farmer also played on the basketball team.
PERSONAL: George was born on July 4, 1993...his father, George, was a wide receiver at Southern and then in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams (1982-84) and Miami Dolphins (1987).
