THIS YEAR: Junior Phillip Francis is in the best shape of his life and should be one of the top sprinters in the Pac-10 in 2005.
2004: Francis had bests of 10.35 in the 100m and 20.94 in the 200m as a sophomore ... He won the NCAA West Regional 100m in 10.45 ... At the Pac-10s, he was sixth in 10.46 and fifth in the 200m (21.06) ... Ran his 10.35 at the Texas Relays and his 20.94 at the UCLA dual meet ... Was dinged up at the NCAAs and did not advance past the first round of the 100m prelims.
2003: As a freshman, Francis was the anchor leg on USC's winning 400m relay that captured the NCAA West Regional crown in 40.05 ... Also ran anchor at the NCAAs, where the Trojans ran a season-best 39.75, but did not qualify for the finals ... Ran 10.39 unattached at the Trojan Invitational.
HIGH SCHOOL: Francis won the 2001 California state 100m championship with a time of 10.53 ... He was also the 2001 100m and 200m champ at the Mt. Sac Relays in the Boys Division.
PERSONAL: Phillip was born on April 26, 1983 in Los Angeles ... He is an American Studies major at USC.
