THIS YEAR: Redshirt junior jumper Eric Sloan was limited to the indoor season in 2016 and he proved that he can be a force in the jumps nationally for the Trojans. He redshirted the 2016 outdoor season and has two seasons of eligibity remaining. He transferred to USC from San Joaquin Delta College where he was a JC All-American. He is a co-captain of USC's 2017 T&F team.
2016: Competed indoors before a hamstring strain and pinched nerve in his back caused him to miss the outdoor season. Won the MPSF long jump (25-2.75) and triple jump titles (53-6.25) to help lead USC to the team title. Won the triple jump at the Tyson Invitational with a PR of 55-10-.50 (17.03m), which is the second-farthest indoor jump every by a Trojan. Finished sixth in the LJ at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a mark of 25-2.75 (.7.69m)...Took fourth in the triple jump at the indoor NCAAs, but suffered a leg injury which would cause him to miss the outdoor season. He rehabbed all season and then was able to place 12th in the triple jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials. His best jump was 53-3.50 (16.24m) which moved him into seventh place on USC's all-time list, the first Trojan to crack the top 10 since 2003. Won the TJ gold medal at the NACAC U23 games with a jump of 53-0.00 (16.15m) in El Salvador on July 17.
BEFORE USC: After missing the 2013 season due to a patellar tendon injury, Sloan made his freshman season in 2014 at San Joaquin Delta College special, beginning with a school record triple jump of 51-10 (15.80m) in his first meet and finishing with the California state title and a then-PR of 53-6.25 (16.31m). He also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 25-0.50 (7.63m), and twice during the season jumped 25-2.50 (7.68m). In 2015, Sloan placed first in every regular season meet in the triple jump, setting a PR of 54-0 (16.46m) at the De Anza Invitational. At the Northern California Community College Championship, Sloan placed second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Sloan then set a wind-aided PR in the long jump of 25-10.25 (7.88m) and a wind-legal PR of 25-8.00 (7.82) at the Mt. Sac Relays before going on to compete at the California State Championship where he finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 51-9 (15.77m).
HIGH SCHOOL: Sloan is a 2012 graduate of Bear Creek High School in Stockton, California.
PERSONAL: Eric was born on June 20, 1994 in Stockton, Calif...He is the only child to parents Shannon Baker and Eric Sloan Jr...Lists his favorite musical artist as Ray J and favorite movie as Blood Brothers...Is majoring in Communications at USC.
