THIS YEAR: Senior Zsofia Erdelyi has already set three USC distance records and would like nothing more than to add an NCAA title to her accomplishments. She redshirted in track last season due to a stomach injury.
2011: Erdelyi was bothered by stomach pain early in the season and competed in three races before she had surgery to remove a cyst which ended her season. USC appealed to the NCAA for a medical redshirt season which was granted on Sept. 14. Was able to better her school 5000m record with a time of 16:00.11 to place seventh in the 5000m Olympic Development Elite race at Mt. Sac. on April 15. She won the Hungarian national steeplechase title in the summer with a time of 10:27.84. This fall Erdelyi won the Long Beach Half Marathon with a time of 1:16.59 and won the Las Vegas Marathon with a time of 2:48.58, her first marathon. She then placed fifth at the Houston Marathon 42 days later with a time 2:36.56, achieving the Olympic "A" Standard and giving her a good chance of representing Hungary at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
2010: Reached the NCAA finals in the 10000m, but unfortunately did not feel well the day of the race and finished 24th with a time of 34:44.63. Her PR and school record of 33:18.75 set on March 26 at the Stanford Relays would have given her a third-place finish at the finals. Placed third in the 5000m at the Pac-10 Championships with a time of 16:12.42. Was a two-time winner at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet for the third-straight season, winning the 5000m with a time of 16:41.00 and coming back to take the 1500m race with a time of 4:26.44. Had a PR of 9:27.96 in the 3000m at the Trojan Invitational on March 20 to move from fourth to third on USC's all-time list.
2009: Set the USC 5000m record and bettered her school record in the 10000m races during the summer. She broke the 5000m record twice, first running 16:14.55 on June 21 in Norway to pass Emebet Shiferaw (16:16.27 in 1996), then had a new school record of 16:09.38 at the European U23 Championships in Lithuania on July 19. Earlier in that meet on July 17, she broke her school record with a time of 33:39.89 in the 10000m race. Originally took the school's all-time lead in the 10000m with a time of 34:04.70 at the Stanford Relays on March 27. Placed seventh in the 5000m race at the Pac-10 Championships with a time of 16:40.99 and third in the 3000m SC with a time of 10:16.17. Earned All-America honors in the steeplechase at the NCAA Championships with an eighth-place finish with a time of 10:12.31. Also was a key figure in USC's Dual Meet sweep of the Bruins, winning the 5000m race and then the 1500m race which clinched the meet for the women.
2008: Set the USC 3000m SC record with a time of 10:03.73 to place second at the West Regional on May 31. She had already run the fourth-fastest 3000m time by a Trojan of 9:33.29 on March 22 at the Trojan Invitational which set a freshman school record. She placed fourth in the steeplechase at the Pac-10s with a time of 10:23.46 and seventh in the 5000m race with a time of 17:03.29. She had a season best and the third-best Trojan time ever of 16:36.66 in the 5000m on April 5 at the Stanford Initational. She established a USC 5K record with a time of 16:51.90 in winning the Roadrunner Invitational.
