THIS YEAR: With senior Aleksandra Deren, USC is strong in both the 800m and 1500m.
2001: Deren made an immediate impact in her first season at USC, finishing second in the 800m (2:05.06) at the Pac-10s and first in the 1500m (4:20.84) at the UCLA dual meet ... Is already in the top five all-time in both events at USC ... Ran an NCAA automatic 2:04.18 in the 800m to win the Fullerton Open, the fifth fastest 800m time in Women of Troy history ... Finished eighth in the 800m in the prelims of the NCAAs with a time fo 2:13.40 and did not advance ... Also ran on USC's 1600m relay squad.
PRIOR TO USC: Deren was a two-time Polish champion in the 800m and 900m ... She was second in the 800m at the 1997 European championships ... Attended two years of college at Szkota Podstawowa University in Poland prior to coming to USC ... Won the 800m and 900m at the Polish Junior championships.
