THIS YEAR: Redshirt senior Colin Campbell developed into one of the Trojans' top discus throwers last season. He has made great strides in a short time of throwing the discus. Came to USC with a focus on the 400m and 800m and battled through injuries his first two seasons.
2009: Had the farthest regular season throw by a Trojan last season with a PR of 188-5 (57.44m) on April 25 at the Tiny Lister meet. Had a throw of 166-4 (50.70m) at the Pac-10 Championships, but then had two fouls. Advanced to the NCAA West Regional, but also had foul problems. Also placed second in the discus in the Dual Meet with a throw of 181-7 (55.35m), to give USC a 1-2 finish.
2008: Really took to the discus last season, throwing a best of 177-8 (54.15m) at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitation on April 5 to qualify for the NCAA West Regional. He threw 170-0 (51.82m) at the Regional to finish 18th. He threw the discus 167-3 (50.98m) at the Pac-10 in the prelims, just missing by two spots of advancing.
2007: Again battled through injuries. Ran a season best of 1:55.60 in the 800m at the Trojan Invitational on March 24.
2006: Redshirted due to a hamstring injury.
HIGH SCHOOL: Campbell prepped at Ventura (Calif.) High and had a California-best of 1:51.26 in the 800m at the Arcadia Invitational, the fourth-fastest time by a high schooler in the nation...Also ran a 47 second 400m time...He was the CIF Southern Section Division II and Masters Champion in the 800m...Placed third in the state in the 800m in 2005 and was seventh in 2004...Was the Academic Athlete of the Year in Ventura Country and Athlete of the Year at Ventura High...He is the only four-year starter on the varsity basketball team in Ventura High history...He had a 4.1 GPA in hish school.
PERSONAL: Colin was born on Oct. 17, 1986 in Ventura, Calif....Likes going to the beach, video games and spending time with his sister Nicole...Lists his favorite movie as Gladiator and his favorite meal is lunch at grandma's...He is a Health Promotion major at USC.
