THIS YEAR: Redshirt junior Shelby Buckley enters the season healthy and for all intents and purposes will be competing in track at USC for the first time. She has the ability to help the Trojans in the middle distances.

2011: Steadily progressed in her rehab during the track season and was able to compete at the Occidental Invitational on May 7. In her first track meet as a Trojan, she place third in her heat and 12th overall in the women's 800m race with a time of 2:13.76. Had a strong cross country season this past Fall for USC, leading USC in three of four meets including being the Trojans' top finisher at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 22:01.

2010: Battled a variety of injuries which kept her off the track for USC. Ran unattached at the Titan Invitational cross country meet in the Fall and finished third with a time of 17:59. Also was able to run unattached in three races in the 2009 cross country season when she was still ineligible to compete for USC and finished no lower than seventh, including winning the first race at the UC Irvine Invitational before the collegiate open.

BEFORE USC: Began her collegiate career at UCLA in 2008 where she competed in cross country, but not in track and field. Ran in four XC races for the Bruins, finishing among their top four runners in each meet. Led UCLA at the Pac-10 Championships with a PR of 21:34.26 to finish 48th. Placed 85th at the West Regional as the Bruins' third runner with a time of 21:55.83.

HIGH SCHOOL: Buckley graduated in 2008 from Corona Del Mar High School in Newport Beach, Calif. where she was a four-year letterman in track and cross country. Also earned a varsity letter in soccer. Won the 2004 CIF State cross country individual title. Is the only female athlete in Orange County history to place in the top five at the state cross country meet for four consecutive seasons. In 2004 earned All-State honors in cross country and was the OC Register Athlete of the Year. Was a four-time All-CIF and all-league honoree in cross country. Earned All-America and All-State honors in track in 2007. Was a member of the national champion 4x1600 relay and DMR. Also was a Foot Locker National cross country finalist in 2006 and CA State champion in 2004. Served as a team captain. Was the 2007 CIF Div. III champion in the 800m and 1600m and CIF Masters champion in the 1600m. Was a member of the winning 4xmile relay team at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Placed third at the 2007 CA State Meet in the 1600m. Broke the CIF Div. III 800m record with a PR of 2:09.6. Her best 1600m time was 4:45.

PERSONAL: Shelby was born on April 16, 1990 in Laguna Hills, Calif. She is a Sociology major at USC. Has three siblings: Keith, Megan and Lindsay. Her parents are Tim and Jennifer. Enjoys traveling and going to the beach in her spare time.
