THIS YEAR: Redshirt junior Anniya Louis bounced back from a series on injuries in her first two seasons at USC to show glimpes of her potential by the end of the season. We look for her to take a big step up this season if she is healthy. Louis won the 2008 California High School state championship in the 800m race.
2011: Had a season-best 800m time of 2:12.28 to place 12th at the Pac-10 Championships on May 13. Ran a her first collegiate 400m race at the Occidental Invitational on May 7 and placed 18th. Took third in the USC-UCLA Dual Meet 800m race with a time of 2:12.61. Her best 1500m time was 4:50.05 at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 5.
2010: Missed the entire season as she recovered from Fall hip surgery.
2009: Had a season best as a freshman in the 800m of 2:10.15 to place fifth at the Occidental Invitational on May 9, just .35 seconds off the regional qualifying standard. She then ran at the Pac-10 Championships on May 16 and just missed the finals, finishing 10th with a time of 2:11.10. Came in fourth in the 800m race with a time of 2:10.54 at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on May 2. She ran her first 800m race as a Trojan at the Long Beach Invitational on April 18 and she posted a 2:14.42 time. Was not able to compete due to injury until she had a PR in the 1500m of 4:46.06 on April 4 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. She had surgery in the fall to correct a congenital hip injury.
CROSS COUNTRY: Has seen limited action in cross country due to hip and back injuries since her arrival at USC. Louis ran her first official cross country race as a Trojan at the Titan Inivtational on Oct. 22, 2010 and placed 22nd with a time of 18:29.5.
HIGH SCHOOL: Louis is a graduate of Culver City HS in in 2008...She ran both track and cross country for the Centaurs...Won the 2008 CIF state 800m championship with a time of 2:09.77...Had a season best of 2:09.38 at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet which was the seventh-best time by a high school senior...Won the 800m race at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational with a time of 2:10.90...She also won the 800m (2:14.69) and the 1600m (5:04.48) at the Ocean League Championships...Had her best 3200m race as a sophomore when she ran 13:03.00...Her other PRs are 57.54 in the 400m, 2:09.16 in the 800m (winning the 2007 CIF Div. 2 title with a meet record), 19:02.1 in the 2.9 XC course and19:20 in the 3.1 mile XC course... Was voted the Culver City HS XC Runner of the Year all four seasons and the Culver City Female Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior.
PERSONAL: Anniya was born on Sept. 3, 1990 in Los Angeles...She helped develop a recycling program at her high school called "Be Blue, Think Green"...Was named a 2008 California Scholarship Federation Sealbearer...Was an honor roll student all four years in high school and won both the Most Spirited Student Council and Most Committed Awards...Likes to write poetry, swim, karaoke, attend Bible studies and hang out with friends.... Says she chose USC because she saw an opportunity to strengthen herself in all areas of life...Says her biggest sports heroes are Allyson Felix because she knows where her gift comes from and her high school coaches David, Lew and Tom...Is active in Athletes in Action and is a member of the Saved by Grace Gospel Choir...Likes Thai and Panamanian food...She is a Psychology major and Theatre minor at USC.
