THIS YEAR: Senior Brendan Ames had an outstanding second season at USC despite battling injuries all season. Placed second in the conference in the long jump and reached the finals of the 110m HH, but could not start due to injury. A healthy Ames could accomplish great things for the track and field program.
2010: Placed second in the long jump at the Pac-10 Championships with a career-best leap of 25-7.25 (7.80m) but injured his hamstring on the jump and passed on his final attempt. Was beaten on the last jump of the competition by 0.01m. Reached the 110m HH finals with the fastest qualifying time, but could not run in the finals. His hamstring injury kept him out of the NCAA Qualifying Rounds in Austin, Texas. Had a PR of 13.80 in winning the 110m HH Olympic Development race at Mt. SAC on April 17. Won the hurdles with a time of 13.95 and placed second in the long jump with a mark of 24-7.25 at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on May 1.
2009: Had a season-best time of 14.45 in the 110m HH on April 17 at the Mt. SAC Relays to take fifth in the University/Open division. Had his then college-best long jump of 24-6 1/4 (7.47m) to place third at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on May 2. Also placed second in the 110m HH in the Dual Meet with a time of 14.93. Was injured and could not compete at the Pac-10 Championships.
BEFORE USC: Spent his freshman season at Kentucky where he had bests of 14.14 in the 100mHH (4th all-time by a Wildcat) and 23-10 3/4 in the indoor long jump (6th all-time by a Wildcat). He also had an outdoor long jump of 22-5 to place 14th at the SEC Championships and rank 9th all-time at UK. Ran a 14.20 110m HH at the Mideast Regionals in the prelims. He ran a 7.97 time in the 60m hurdles, which ranks third in UK history.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ames prepped at Cheyenne Central where he was named a 2007 Track and Field News All-American and 2007 USA Today High School All-USA Track and Field selection...Was also named the 2007 Wyoming Gatorade Athlete of the Year...He was a six-time indoor Wyoming state champion and an eight-time outdoor state champion...He was a 2007 U.S. Junior National Team member and his time of 13.15 in the 110m HH in high school ranked best in the world and is the fastest time ever recoded by a Junior under any conditions in the 110m HH...He ranked among the top six U.S. high schoolers in three events his senior season (55m hurdles, 60 m hurdles and long jump)...Was the 2007 Nike Indoor Nationals runner up in the hurdles.
PERSONAL: Brendan was born on Oct. 6, 1988 in Cheyenne, Wy...In his spare time likes to play basketball and listen to music...Lists his favorite musician as Musiq Soulchild and favorite movie at Training Day...Is an American Studies and Ethnicity major at USC.
