Trojans enjoy a big first day against top-notch competition
THIS YEAR: Senior Akawkaw (CoCo) Ndipagbor (N-dip-AGH-boar) remains one of USC most talented and versatile runners. She is USC's record-holder indoors in the 400m and has run on three different 4x400m relays which rank in USC's all-time top 10. She has won titles on the state and national level, and has represented the USA in international competitions.
2014: Ndipagbor starred in the indoor season, winning the MPSF 400m title with a time of 52.63 which broke the school record of 53.09 set by Michelle Taylor in 1989. Ndipagbor went on to place seventh at the Indoor NCAA Championships with a time of 52.88 to earn All-America honors. Outdoors she won the 200m dash at the Mt. SAC relays with a wind-aided season-best time of 53.40 on April 18. The next day she came back to place 8th in the 400m with a season-best time of 53.36. She placed second in the USC-UCLA Dual Meet 400m on May 4 with a time of 53.50 and fifth in the event at the Pac-12 meet on May 18 with a time of 53.49...she also ran the leadoff leg for the Pac-12 title-winning 4x400m relay which posted a time of 3:34.72. Earned All-America honors on USC's 4x400m relay which placed seventh at the NCAA Championships on June 14 with a time of 3:32.35. Three different 4x400m relay teams she ran on posted USC all-time top 10 times, topped by the third-fastest time by a Trojan quartet of 3:29.42 at the Florida Relays on April 5. Also ran a leg for the team that set the USC indoor record of 3:34.51 at the Tyson Indoor Championships on Feb. 15.
2013: Very busy and successful season, competing in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m races. Won three events at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 27, won the 200m with a time of 23.73, was on the winning 4x100m relay which posted a season-best time of 43.86 and on the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:39.69...Also placed second in the 100m dash with a PR of 11.48...Was sixth at the Pac-12 Championships in the 200m with a time of 23.56 and seventh in the 100m with a time of 11.72. Ran the first leg for the 4x400m relay team which captured a Pac-12 title with a stadium-record time of 3:32.39. Also ran a leg for the second-place 4x100m relay which clocked 44.76. Ran on the 4x400m relay team that cruised through regionals on May 25 with a time of 3:32.31, the eighth-fastest time in school history. Placed 18th in the 200m dash at the NCAA Championships with a time of 23.46. Also ran on the 4x400m relay which placed 11th with a time of 3:34.44.
2012: Ndipagbor posted season-best times in the 100m (11.77) and the 200m (23.73) at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 10, winning the 200m race and placing second in the 100m dash. She ran her fastest 400m race of the season of 54.10 to place eighth at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 20...she also ran a wind-aided 23.80 in the 200m to finish seventh, second among collegians. Was second in the USC-UCLA Dual Meet 400m race with a time of 54.53 on April 29...also ran on the winning 4x100m relay team (43.95) and the second-place 4x400m relay team (3:41.03). Was seventh in the 400m dash (54.88) and 11th in the 200m dash (24.01) at the Pac-12 Championships in Eugene, Ore. from May 12-13...also ran a leg on the second-place 4x100m relay (44.16) and the sixth-place 4x400m relay (3:41.07). Advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in the 400m race by advancing to the NCAA Preliminary Rounds final round where she placed 23rd with a time of 54.13...ran the third leg on the 4x100m relay which ran 44.29 to place sixth and advance to the NCAA Championships. At the NCAAs on June 9, USC's 4x100m relay placed seventh with a time of 44.24 earning Ndipagbor All-America honors in the event...the team ran a season-best 43.94 in the seminfinals on June 6.
High School: Ndipagbor of state champion Long Beach Poly won the 2011 California State Meet 400m title with a time of 53.38 and took second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.05. She won both the 200m and 400m races at the CIF Southern Section and CIF Masters Meet and holds PRs of 23.38 in the 200m and 53.12 in the 400m. Ndipagbor won the 400m race at the Nike Nationals with a time of 54.40. She then ran for the U.S. Junior National Team at the Pan Am Junior Games and placed fifth in the 200m dash with her PR of 23.38. Was an honor roll student.
Personal: Akawkaw was born on April 30, 1993 in Long Beach, Calif..Her parents are Tabenyang Ndipagbor and Awu Ncha and she has three siblings, Tabe, Egbe and Enu...Her hobbies include writing, public speaking and dancing...Lists her favorite musicians as The Weeknd, Florence Welch and Jhene Aiko....Her favorite food is mom's cooking and thai KBBQ Pho...Is majoring in Global Health at USC and after USC would like work in developing medical infastructure in underdeveloped countries through film and education.
