USC Athletic Medicine Mission Statement
The mission statement of the Department of Athletic Medicine is to create a fair environment for all student-athletes at the University of Southern California to access the best possible health care for sports related injuries. Our objective is to address the health care needs of each individual athlete both physical and mental. We strive to return our athletes to full participation as quickly and safely as possible.

What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?
Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) are health care providers who specialize in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses that occur to athletes. Athletic trainer certification is granted by the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC).

BOC certified athletic trainers are educated, trained, and evaluated in six major practice domains:

- Prevention
- Recognition, Evaluation and Assessment
- Immediate Care
- Treatment, Rehabilitation and Reconditioning
- Organization and Administration
- Professional Development
