USC Baseball Drops Opener at Oregon, 9-7
March 25, 2022 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – The USC baseball team couldn't quite keep pace with the Oregon offense on Friday night, falling to the first-place Ducks 9-7 in a back-and-forth contest.
The Trojans fall to 13-7 overall and 3-4 in Pac-12 play with the loss, while Oregon moves to 15-6, 6-1.
Despite an early 9-4 deficit, USC hung in and put up three runs to stay within striking distance, but the visiting Trojans couldn't complete the comeback, going scoreless over the final three innings.
Oregon jumped on top early, getting a three-run homer from Josh Kasevich in the first inning. USC's Johnny Olmstead had the answer, blasting a three-run homer of his own in the top of the second to tie things up. Olmstead also had a sac fly later in the game to match his career high four RBI.
After the Trojans added a run to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the third, Oregon came back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the fourth to go ahead 9-4. USC scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth, but that was it for the Trojan offense on the day.
Toby Spach and Kyle Wisch each had scoreless relief outings, with Spach tossing 3.0 innings and Wisch 2.0.
