USC Baseball Scores 5 Late Runs to Beat Cal State Fullerton, 11-10
March 22, 2022 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team scored five unanswered runs over the last two innings, getting a game-tying home run from Garret Guillemette and game-winning triple from Carson Wells in the eighth inning to beat Cal State Fullerton 11-10 on Tuesday night at Dedeaux Field.
Tyler Lozano sparked the rally with a two-run homer in the seventh, helping USC erase a 10-6 deficit and move to 13-6 on the year. The visiting Titans fall to 5-14.
USC had an early 6-4 lead, but Cal State Fullerton scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 10-6 advantage into the bottom of the seventh.
After Trevor Halsema singled to start the seventh for the Trojans, Lozano's fifth homer of the year made it a two-run game. Matt Keating worked a scoreless top of the eighth to bring the USC offense back up, getting a double-play to end the inning.
Guillemette's homer came after Adrian Colon-Rosado got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning as he launched a ball just inside the left field foul pole to set off a celebration in the Trojan dugout. After a Fullerton pitching change, Wells came to the plate with two outs and a runner on first, and laced a ball into the gap in right-center to bring home the winning run.
Keating would retire the side in order in the ninth to seal the victory and pick up the win.
