Dear Trojan Supporters:
I know how important you and your family are to the proud Trojan heritage that I am now excited to continue. Let me begin by saying how happy I am to be here. I had the chance to take this job three years ago, but the timing just wasn't right. I'm happy to say that the timing couldn't be better now. Like you, my expectation level is very high. I expect our teams to compete in every contest but talk doesn't get it done. Our team has to perform on the field. If this job were going to be easy, I wouldn't be here. It's the challenge that attracted me to this opportunity. There has been a lot of work done already. I have assembled an outstanding coaching staff who helped bring in a top-10 recruiting class. I'm looking forward to evaluating our talent in Spring practices on the way to fielding what will be an exciting but sound football team. It's way too early to put a timetable on success but you'll know it from the numbers in the win column. On offense, we'll feature a wide-open passing attack. Regarded as one of the premier offensive coordinators in college football, Norm Chow will have a lot of control there. Defensively, I'll be very much involved and I believe in an aggressive, attacking style. Our defense will be focused on taking the football away from our opponents, not just stopping the other team. We will play hard on every snap and concentrate on minimizing mistakes - mistakes are the other team's problem. Players love this system and I see many reasons why we will attract the best talent in America. I've enjoyed my time in the NFL but am now totally committed to building the program here at USC. I'm a teacher and a communicator. I've recruited every day of my life to share the vision of what I believe in. People have always said that I was best suited to be a college coach. Now it's my time to prove them right. Thank you again for your ongoing support.
