Today USC has a heritage of athletic excellence that is
unmatched by any university in America.
USC has won more men's national championships (67) than any
other school in NCAA history while winning eight national
football championships. And Trojan women athletes have won 13
national titles. At the same time, USC athletes are second
nationally in the number of NCAA postgraduate scholarships won
and NCAA Top Six scholar athletes.
This type of success is no accident; it has built year by year
on the achievement of outstanding athletes who were given the
opportunity to excel--both on the field and off.
But Trojan athletics is in need of your help. Inflation has
ravaged intercollegiate athletics, creating a fiscal crisis that
threatens the existence of college sports as we know it today
(USC now pays over $5 million in scholarships alone to the
University). Additionally, USC wishes to become a leader in
providing for gender equity in athletics.
In order to maintain the level you have come to know, help is
needed By joining a support group for Trojan athletics, you'll
not only help ensure that USC remains America's top athletic
power, but also that deserving athletes get the best opportunity
of all--an education from the University of Southern California.

USC: Number 1 in National Championships
USC has long dominated
the world of intercollegiate athletics. Trojan men's teams are
tops in the nation in NCAA championships with 67--more than any
other university. And the football team has been voted national
champions eight times. USC has won the National Collegiate
All-Sports Championship--an annual ranking by USA Today of the
Country's top men's athletic programs--six times
(1971-72-74-75-77-80) since its inception in 1971. USC's
outstanding woman athletes have been a national force also with
13 team titles to their credit.
USC Student Athletes: Number 1 in the Classroom
USC is as proud
of its student-athletes' achievement in the classroom as on the
playing field. After all, the Trojans not only lead the nation
in the number of national team championships (75 by the men and
13 by the women), but rank second in the number of NCAA
post-graduate scholarships recipients (42, including 18 football
players). Also, USC has had 21 Academic All-American
football players (tops among Pac-10 schools and tied for
fifth-best in the nation), eight winners of the prestigious NCAA
Today's Top Six scholar award (the second-most from any other
school), eight National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete,
four recipients of the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award, Rhodes
Scholar (quarterback Pat Hayden) and a Luce Scholar (swimmer
Dennis Scannell).
USC: Number 1 in Professional Sports
No matter which professional football or baseball game you're watching or
listening to, there's an excellent chance that at least one
former Trojan player will be in uniform. That's because USC
annually has more players in those professional sports than
virtually any other university.
USC: Number 1 in Olympic Competition
In international
competition, USC has also established a stellar reputation and a
long tradition of nurturing Olympic athletes. Since 1904, some
270 Trojan athletes have competed in the Games, taking home 87
Gold medals (winning at least one Gold in every Olympics since
1912), 53 Silver and Bronze.
