Baseball
The Trojans had a busy week, winning 5 out of 6 games in a span of 7 days. It began with an 11-8 win over UC Santa Barbara at Dedeaux Field last Tuesday, as sophomore righthander Steve Immel improved to 1-1. The Trojans then hit the road for a 3-game series at Hawaii. The Rainbows won game 1, 9-3, but the Trojans took the next 2, 4-3 and 12-4. Junior righthander Seth Etherton (3-0) and senior righthander Scott Henderson (3-1) earned wins. On Monday, USC swept a doubleheader from Hawaii Hilo, 7-1 and 13-3. Sophomore righthander Craig Jones and junior righthander Mike Weibling picked up their first wins of the season.
Men's Basketball
Led by senior swingman Stais Boseman, the Trojans got a split in Arizona with a 72-66 win at Arizona State, followed by a 101-77 loss at No. 11 Arizona, to stay in contention for a Pac-10 title and NCAA Tournament berth. USC, tied with California, is 1 game behind UCLA. Boseman had 16 points, as did junior forward Gary Williams in the win over the Sun Devils. Boseman hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to ice the win. The Wildcats then ended USC's 5-game winning streak despite Boseman's 24 points.
Women's Basketball
The Women of Troy went 1-1 at the Lyon Center last weekend, defeating Arizona State, 77-63, on Friday, but losing to Arizona, 82-64, on Sunday. Senior forward Tina Thompson scored 22 points and had 8 rebounds and senior center Michelle Campbell had 10 and 11 against the Sun Devils, as USC turned a 36-34 halftime lead into a rout. Against the Wildcats, USC shot just 33.8 percent and lost for the first time this season in the Pac-10 to a team other than Stanford. Thompson had 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Men's Golf
Senior Brian Hull shot a 5-under par 211 to finish second and help the Trojans to a second-place finish at the TaylorMade/Big Island Intercollegiate last weekend. Hull finished 1 stroke behind the leader. UNLV won the tournament. Senior Roger Tambellini tied for 13th, senior Chad Wright tied for 32nd and freshman Nick Webb tied for 38th.
Women's Golf
Sophomore Johanna Josefsson's tie for 20th place was USC's best showing as the Women of Troy finished 10th at the SMU/OSU Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club last week. Stanford won the event. Juniors Danielle LaVoie and Ida Daniellson finished tied for 48th.
Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving
Behind 3 wins from senior Kristine Quance (100 and 200 breast, 200 IM) and 2 from freshman Jamie Johnson (500 and 1650 free), the Women of Troy beat No. 10 UCLA, 198-102, on Friday at the McDonald's Swim Stadium. Junior Jean Ellis Todisco had an NCAA qualifying time in winning the 200 fly and USC swept the 1-meter (sophomore Dorte Lindner) and 3-meter (junior Natalya Chikina) diving. On Saturday, the men beat UC Santa Barbara, 194-52, and the women beat the Gauchos, 192-58. USC won every race but 1 for the men and 1 for the women.
