Kristin Olsen of the women's soccer team and Matt Giles of the men's golf team were named the USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week today (Sept. 21) for the week of Sept. 14-20.
The senior goalkeeper Olsen secured back-to-back 1-0 shutouts on the road with a combined eight saves at No. 21 Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Olsen's 1-0 blanking of Oklahoma on Sept. 20 was especially impressive as she made six saves and faced constant pressure from an Oklahoma team which played a man up for 56 minutes. Olsen now has 22 career solo shutouts, three away from tying the school record.
Giles, a junior, helped lead USC to an 8th-place tie at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in Chicago, Ill this past weekend (Sept. 18-20) as he tied for 10th with a three-round total of 216 (+6). The two-time All-American's second-round score of 67 was the low round of the tournament.
