Gilbreath, Jupiter, Bradford & Kurzeka Named USC Student-Athletes Of The Week

Briana Gilbreat of women's basketball, Alex Jupiter of women's volleyball, Allen Bradford of football and Peter Kurzeka of men's water polo were named the USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week today (Dec. 6) for the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 5. The junior Gilbreath scored 49 points in USC's two road games, a 69-66 loss at No. 4 Xavier on Dec. 2 and a 84-75 win at North Carolina State on Dec. 5. At Xavier, Gilbreath had a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds and hit a three-pointer to give USC a late 66-63 lead, but Xavier scored the final six points of the game. In the win at NC State, Gilbreath tallied 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, had three assists, two blocks and a steal. Jupiter, a junior All-America outside hitter, had a match-high 23 kills in USC's 3-1 win over San Diego on Dec. 4 which propelled them on to the NCAA Regional semifinals in Dayton, Ohio. Jupiter had a team-high 16 kills and hit .464 in the first round sweep of New Mexico on Dec. 5. The senior Bradford running back led USC to a 28-14 season-ending victory over crosstown rival UCLA with 212 yards rushing, including a 73-yard rushing touchdown and a 47-yard receiving touchdown. Bradford amassed 259 yards in total offense in the game. For Bradford, it was his fourth start of the season and first since the Cal game on Oct. 16. It was also his second 200-yard rushing game of the season and the 28th most rushing yards in a single game in history by a Trojan. The junior driver Kurzeka scored four goals in USC's 12-10 overtime NCAA finals win vs. host California on Dec. 5. USC trailed by one goal with five minutes left in regulation before Kurzeka scored an equalizer to tie it at 10-10, then he scored the winning goal in the overtime period to send the Trojans to their third consecutive NCAA men's water polo title. Kurzeka was named NCAA Tournament MVP. In the semifinals 10-7 win vs. No. 4 seed St. Francis, Kurzeka tallied two goals. |
