June 6, 2012
LOS ANGELES -- USC pitcher Stephen Tarpley was one of seven freshmen from the Pac-12 named to the 2012 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, as released by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Wednesday.
Tarpley, an 8th round selection of the Cleveland Indians in the 2011 MLB Draft, showed flashes of excellence on the mound in his first year with the Trojans. He tied Andrew Triggs with a team-leading five wins with a 3.22 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 78 1/3 innings of work. Tarpley held opposing hitters to a .241 batting average and didn't allow a home run all season.
Tarpley is the 11th Collegiate Baseball All-American in USC's history and the first since Ricky Oropesa in 2009.
