Valeria Pulido of the women's tennis team and Brendan Ames of the track and field team were named the USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week today (April 12) for the week of April 5-11.

The freshman Pulido avenged a loss to ASU's Hannah James with a decisive straight-set victory in USC's important Pac-10 win over the Sun Devils on April 9. Pulido had fallen in a tight three-setter to James earlier in the year when ASU beat USC 4-3, but Pulido dominated in her rematch with James 6-4, 6-3 to help USC to a 5-2 victory. The following day, Pulido rolled through doubles play with Alison Ramos and then posted another strong singles win at her No. 4 position, beating Arizona's Toporowska 6-1, 6-2 on the way to another Pac-10 win for the Trojans. A freshman, Pulido's winning weekend pulls her overall singles record to 26-8 - tied for most wins on the team - while she holds a 16-5 mark in dual-match play.

The junior hurdler Ames won the men's 110m high hurdles with a time of 13.81 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 10. His time was his best as a Trojan and ties him with teammate Oscar Spurlock for ninth-best in the country in the event. His previous best time as a Trojan was 13.91 set last week and last season his fastest time was 14.45. Ames also has USC's best long jump of the season with a leap of 24-3 1/2.
