Ali, Wood and Kang Named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes Of The Week

Nia Ali of the women's track team, Austin Wood of the baseball team and Jeffrey Kang of the men's golf team were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week today (April 11) for the week of April 3-10. Nia Ali: Women's Track: The redshirt senior Ali ran had an official mark of 13.0 sec. in the 100m hurdles semi-finals last weekend at the Texas Relays, good for third fastest all-time at USC. It was the best time since former Trojan Candice Davis ran a 12.90 on 2007. Ali also finished second in the final with a wind-aided time of 12.74. (3.6 wind). Austin Wood: Baseball: Junior right-hander Austin Wood allowed just one unearned run in eight innings and struck out a career-high eight batters Saturday as the USC Trojans evened its Pac-10 Conference series with the 3-1 victory over the No. 11 Stanford Cardinal. Wood allowed seven hits and just two walks in his best start as a Trojan this season. Jeffrey Kang: Men's Golf: Freshman Jeffrey Kang finished a season-best third to lead a quartet of Trojans in the top seven as the No. 25 USC men's golf team won its first tournament since 2009 by 14 strokes at the 39th annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Sunday (April 10) at the Karsten G.C. in Tempe. Kang carded his second straight round in the 60s for his fifth of the year and his 5-under 208 (71-69-68) was a season-best. |
